About This Tool

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is the single number that summarises your academic record, and it matters for scholarships, honours, graduate applications, and some jobs. Calculating it correctly means understanding that not all courses count equally.

How GPA is calculated

Each letter grade is worth a number of grade points on a scale — on the standard US 4.0 scale, A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, and so on, with pluses and minuses in between. Your GPA is **not** a simple average of those points. It is **credit-weighted**:

GPA = (sum of grade points × credit hours) ÷ (total credit hours)

So an A in a 4-credit course pulls your GPA up more than an A in a 1-credit course. This calculator handles the weighting for you — just enter each course's grade and credit hours.

Semester vs cumulative

Enter a single term's courses to get your **semester GPA**, or enter every course you've taken for a **cumulative GPA**. You can add or remove course rows freely.

A note on scales

This tool uses the common US 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades. Some schools use unweighted scales, weighted honours/AP scales, or different point values — always check your institution's official policy. Everything is calculated in your browser and never stored.
