About This Tool
Typing quickly and accurately is one of the highest-leverage skills for anyone who works on a computer. Whether you code, write, or answer emails all day, shaving seconds off every sentence adds up to hours over a week. This typing test measures your speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy, and — unlike most tests — it adapts to your level.
Four levels, one skill
Raw speed on simple words is only part of typing. Real writing has capital letters, punctuation, numbers, and symbols that slow most people down. That is why this test has four levels:
- **Beginner** — the most common English words, for building rhythm and muscle memory - **Intermediate** — full sentences, so you practise real spacing and flow - **Advanced** — capitalization, punctuation, numbers and symbols, where accuracy is tested - **Code** — genuine programming snippets full of brackets, operators, and camelCase
How WPM and accuracy are scored
WPM uses the universal formula: every five correctly-typed characters count as one word, divided by the time elapsed. Accuracy is the share of characters you got right. Both update live as you type, and each character is colored green or red so you can see mistakes instantly.
How to get faster
Prioritise accuracy first — errors cost more time than slow, correct typing. Keep your eyes on the text, not your hands. Practise a few minutes daily and progress through the levels. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.
